Dear Confrères & Consoeurs, Members of the Ambulance Corps, and our volunteers,
I hope all of you are well, even though a particularly sad week for all of us between the death of our much beloved Grand Master, Fra’ Giacomo Dalla Torre del Tempio di Sanguinetto, and that of our esteemed confrère, Cmdr. Patrick Lynch, KM. Lux Aeterna Luceat eis, Domine, Requiescant in Pace.
On behalf of all of us, may I thank our principal chaplain, Dom Henry O’Shea, OSB, for offering the Mass for the Repose of our late Grand Master, Fra’ Giacomo, today. It is good that we could watch it streamlined from Glenstal Abbey onto our computers, laptops, tablets and iphones, and join in with our prayers. Also, may I express our sincere gratitude to the Abbot, Dom Brendan Coffey, OSB, for his most considerate and gracious permission for the Mass to proceed, and for the generosity and support of the community in facilitating us.
Also, I want to bring to your attention that the Solemn State Requiem Mass for the late Grand Master will be held at a date to be decided upon when current public health protocols and restrictions regarding the Covid-19 pandemic are lifted. In due course, you will be informed of the time and date.
Meanwhile, the Funeral Mass & Burial Service for the late Grand Master (at which only his sisters, brothers and members of the Sovereign Council will attend) will take place on Tuesday 5th May at 11.00 am (Central European Time), which is 10.00am (Irish Time). It will be streamlined live from the Church of Santa Maria in Aventino, where Fra’ Giacomo will be laid to rest alongside his predecessors in the vault. His Eminence Giovanni Angelo Cardinal Becciu, Special Delegate of the Holy Father to the Sovereign Order of Malta, will celebrate the Mass. To access the streamlined Obsequies, please go to the Order’s international website, www.orderofmalta.int
As President of the Irish Association, I have already written formally to the Lieutenant ad Interim of the Order,H.E. Fra’ Ruy Gonçalo do Valle Peixoto de Villas Boas, to express our sincere condolences and to assure him of our full support.
May God bless and protect all of you and your loved ones,
