a. Establish if the patient has a prior diagnosis of an allergy and/or is prescribed the Adrenaline auto-injector.
b. Establish if the patient has been in contact with an allergen e.g. peanuts.
c. List the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis. 4. Responding & Reacting in a safe and appropriate manner, the student will be able to:
a. Carry out the appropriate interventions including the administration Adrenaline auto-injector as per clinical practice guidelines to an adult and a child.
b. List the 6 rights of medicine administration
c. Identify suitable injection site for administering Adrenaline.
d. Lay the patient down with legs raised.
e. Take precautions for personal protection against infection.
f. Prepare the auto-injector for administration.
g. Administer the auto-injector to a simulated patient. 5. Reporting & Recording - safety including handover to Emergency Medical Services.
a. Complete PHECC’s ambulatory care report (ACR) including the administration of Adrenaline in the required manner.
b. Demonstrate correct disposal of the auto-injector.
c. Deliver a handover report to an appropriate practitioner.
