January 28, 2026Order of Malta Ireland is pleased to support a new initiative offering free first aid training to those working across Irish racing and breeding.
Registrations are now open for upcoming one-day courses taking place:
- 10 February – The Curragh Racecourse
- 17 February – Fairyhouse RacecourseAdditional dates will be announced in due course.
This training programme is fully funded by HRI Health & Safety in collaboration with the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB), the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association (ITBA), and supported by the Order of Malta. The course is designed specifically for those operating within the racing environment and equips participants with practical, life-saving skills relevant to their daily work.
Participants will receive training in:
- Concussion awareness and response
- CPR and use of a defibrillator (AED)
- Injury and bleeding management
- Responding effectively to incidents such as falls or kicks
The course is certified by the IHRB Senior Medical Officer, Dr Jennifer Pugh, and by Order of Malta. Certificates will be issued upon successful completion.
As outlined in our 2024/25 Impact Report, first aid training remains a core component of our mission to build safer communities through professional and accredited instruction. Supporting the racing sector through targeted training reflects our ongoing commitment to preparedness, prevention, and high standards of care across Ireland.
