Two dedicated teams from Order of Malta Ireland travelled to Rome this month as part of the international medical support response for Jubilee 2025.

Their mission: to assist with medical coverage across the four major basilicas—St. Peter’s, St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major, and St. Paul Outside the Walls.

The teams joined hundreds of volunteers from the Order of Malta’s global network, working together to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the thousands of pilgrims arriving daily.

Their responsibilities ranged from first aid provision to supporting mobility-impaired pilgrims.

What made this visit even more significant was its timing. The Irish teams were present in Rome for the historic inauguration ceremony of Pope Leo XVI.

This rare moment added a deeply spiritual dimension to their service and offered a unique opportunity to witness a milestone in the life of the Church.

“We were proud to represent Ireland and to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our colleagues from across the Order during such a significant moment in the Church’s calendar, “It was an honour to be there not only to serve but also to witness history.” Comdr. John Wright KM Hospitaller.

Order of Malta Ireland’s participation in Jubilee 2025 highlights its enduring commitment to service, solidarity, and faith in action on the international stage.
