June 7, 2023The Limerick Unit was inaugurated on Trinity Sunday 1948 following a 12-week First Aid Course held in the extern department of St. John’s Hospital. The course was conducted by Dr. Anthony Crehan who was the first Medical Officer of the Unit and ably assisted by Dr Roche Kelly and Dr Comber.

The inauguration was reported in the Limerick Leader at the time as an “impressive and colourful ceremony”.
