Order of Malta Honoured by Lord Mayor of Dublin’s Selection of 850th Commemorative Stamp as Official Gift to Mayor of Rome
March 19, 2025The Sovereign Military Order of Malta in Ireland wish to acknowledges with deep respect the exemplary and honourable conduct of the Very Rev. Fr Paul Murphy, a Chaplain to the Defence Forces and a Magistral Chaplain of the Order.
During a recent court hearing concerning an incident in which Fr Murphy was the victim of a violent assault, he embraced the young man who had inflicted the harm and publicly extended his forgiveness. This act, as reported by The Irish Times, stands as a powerful expression of the Christian vocation to mercy, reconciliation, and hope.
Fr Murphy’s courage and compassion reflect not only his personal integrity but also the spirit of Easter — the triumph of love over hatred and peace over violence. His decision to meet his assailant with grace and human dignity underscores our mission in the Order of Malta to bear witness to the Gospel through acts of service, compassion, and healing.
We express our gratitude for Fr Murphy’s continuing ministry and remain united with him in prayer and solidarity.
