The Sovereign Order of Malta has entered into a new Cooperation Agreement with Ecuador, marking a significant milestone in our ongoing humanitarian mission. The agreement was signed yesterday at the Magistral Villa on the Aventine Hill by Grand Chancellor Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo and Ecuador’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, Gabriela Sommerfeld Romero.
This partnership builds upon over seven decades of diplomatic relations, dating back to 1953, during which the Order has successfully implemented numerous health and social initiatives throughout Ecuador. Working closely with our National Association and Embassy, in collaboration with local communities, we have maintained a steadfast commitment to serving those most in need.
The new agreement expands our collaborative efforts across several critical areas:
-Health and Humanitarian Assistance – Continuing our tradition of medical support and emergency aid
-Food Security – Addressing nutritional needs and sustainable food systems
-Volunteer Programs – Strengthening community-based support networks
-Disaster Risk Reduction – Enhancing preparedness and response capabilities
-Technical-Scientific Collaboration – Sharing expertise and knowledge for long-term development
“With the signing of this agreement, we renew our commitment to the vulnerable populations of Ecuador, reinforcing a relationship based on shared values of solidarity and humanitarian service,” remarked Grand Chancellor Paternò di Montecupo.
This agreement represents our continued dedication to the Order’s mission of serving the poor and sick, while fostering international cooperation that transcends borders in the spirit of Christian charity and human dignity.
